Structure Degradation Induced by Wetting and Drying Cycles for the Hilly Granitic Soils in Collapsing Gully Erosion Areas

چکیده
The hydrological and mechanical properties of granitic residual soils can be significantly altered by periodical wetting drying (W-D) cycles. soil structure degradation induced W-D cycles lead to mass failure collapsing gully erosion in hilly slopes south China. However, limited attempts have been made at a comprehensive investigation the effects on soils, especially pedon scale. purpose this paper is investigate structural granite explore its potential influence development erosion. properties, including hydraulic shear strength, disintegration characteristics, were performed after results indicated that pore structure, leading variations properties. Specifically, with increasing alternate cycles, initial saturated water content decreased, while conductivity increased. Meanwhile, contributed cohesion internal friction strength decreasing variables, strength. Correspondingly, was increased during Furthermore, most recorded within first two W-D. obtained indicate weaken increase rainwater infiltration, decrease resistance, accelerate A vicious cycle slope eventually formed. This study provides useful information about mechanism slopes.

Potassium status of two clayey calcareous soils treated with zeolite under wetting-drying cycles
Zeolite application to clayey soils may change potassium (K) pools distribution and its release rate. To test this hypothesis, two heavy-textured calcareous soils with different mineralogy (smectitic and mixed by XRD) from southern Iran were selected. Experiment was a completely randomized factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted of two soils and two zeolite levels (0 and 5%) and wetting-dry...
متن کاملMineralization of Nitrogen in Soils Amended with Dairy Manure as Affected by Wetting/Drying Cycles
Interest in manure management and its effects on nitrogen (N) mineralization has increased in recent years. The focus of this research was to investigate the N-mineralization rates of different soil types in Coastal Plain soils and compare them to a soil from Illinois. Soils with and without dairy composted manure addition were subjected to different wetting/drying cycles [constant moisture at ...
متن کاملEffect of drying–wetting cycles on aggregate breakdown for yellow–brown earths in karst areas
Background: Drying and rewetting process, frequently occurred during climatic changes, is an important process in soil aggregate slacking and dissolution. The severer interference of human activities on global climate makes the extreme climate scenarios like drought and rainstorm occur frequently. Therefore, there is necessity to further our understanding on the impact of the drying–wetting cyc...
متن کاملTreatment of expansive soils with quality saline pore water by cyclic drying and wetting
Expansive soils can be found in many parts of the world particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. These soilspose a significant hazard to civil engineering structures due to its high swelling and shrinkage potential. This paperpresents the results of an experimental program developed to investigate the effect of cyclic drying and wetting on theswelling potential of expansive soils with variou...
متن کاملcontrol of the swelling potential of soils beneath the canal linings alternative using wetting & drying cycles
expansible soils are those which will suffer considerable swelling and volume change when subjected to water. the resulting swelling pressure may cause complete destruction of such light structures as irrigation canal linings, floor slabs, etc. based upon previous investigations, swelling of clayey soils has been blamed for failure of many irrigation canals in iran and in other countries of the...
